Good afternoon Simons Valley families
It was fantastic to see all our families attend our Meet the Teacher night yesterday. Our staff were excited to share their plans and routines with students. Today is Mrs. Pelton’s last day at SVS and we wish her well. She will be starting at Captain John Palliser School next week. We also had a very successful Terry Fox Run. We appreciated all the parent volunteers and runners! We raised $543.20 for the Terry Fox Foundation and showed incredible support for Kids Cancer Care with a flood of yellow shirts around our neighbourhood. Thanks for being so supportive of our school community.
Remember September 30 marks National Truth and Reconciliation Day, a time to honor the children who attended residential schools and reflect on our shared responsibility in reconciliation.
At school, students will have opportunities to:
- Wear orange to show support and raise awareness (Oct 1)
- Engage in classroom learning through stories, books, and discussions about Indigenous history and culture.
- Participate in creative activities such as art, writing, and reflection projects.
- Explore land-based learning to deepen appreciation for Indigenous relationships with the land.
We encourage families to talk with their children about the significance of this day and the importance of listening, learning, and taking action toward reconciliation.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a respectful and inclusive school community.

Simons Valley School has once again been awarded a fundraising casino – and we need your help to make it a success!
📍 Location: Ace Casino Airport 📅 Dates: November 15–16, 2025
Our last casino raised essential funds that directly supported student programs and enrichment opportunities. No police clearance is needed, and any adult (18+) can volunteer — so feel free to recruit family, friends, and neighbors!

Safe Morning Drop-Off Reminder
Please help us keep drop-off safe for everyone by following these important guidelines:
- Use the designated drop-off zone only — do not stop in crosswalks, bus zones, or staff parking lots.
- Pull forward as far as possible in the drop-off lane to keep traffic moving.
- Stay in your vehicle — students should exit quickly and independently from the passenger side.
- Do not U-turn or back up in front of the school.
- Walkers should use sidewalks and crosswalks, following the directions of staff or patrols.
- Arrive on time — doors open at 8:52 and learning begins promptly at 9:02.
Your cooperation keeps our school community safe and respectful for all. Thank you for modeling safe and caring citizenship for our students.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead,
Chris Hooper EdD
