Dear Parents/Guardians,

A new middle school is expected to open in Evanston, in September 2026, creating room for additional students at Simon Fraser School. This change is also expected to relieve pressure on other northwest Calgary public schools.

This means, starting with the 2026-27 school year, students in Grades 6 to 9 living in Sage Hill or Kincora will be designated to Simon Fraser School.

Simon Fraser School is a middle school, located in the community of Brentwood at 5215 33 St NW (please see attached map).

As the City of Calgary continues to grow, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) continues to prioritize keeping students closer to home, provide strong, stable learning environments that keep peers together, while working to alleviate enrolment pressures. This change will bring together students in the communities that will attend a future Sage Hill and Kincora middle school.

Why am I receiving this notice?

According to CBE records, you live in the Sage Hill or Kincora community, and your child(ren) or current school may be impacted by the designation change at Simon Fraser School. This notice will provide you with the information you need to know.

Who will move to Simon Fraser School?

Regular Program students in Grades 6 to 9 who live in Sage Hill or Kincora

will be designated to Simon Fraser School, this means:

• All new CBE registrations, including siblings, for Grades 6 to 9 will go to Simon Fraser School.
• Grades 5 and 6 students currently at Hawkwood School or Simons Valley School will go to Simon Fraser School.
• Grades 7 and 8 students currently at F. E. Osborne School or Colonel Irvine School can choose to stay at their school until finishing Grade 9, or transfer to Simon Fraser. Families must inform their current principal of their decision by March 13, 2026. Failure to notify the principal of your choice, will result in your child(ren) being automatically designated to the new school.

Note: current Grade 8 students choosing to transfer to Simon Fraser School for Grade 9 will attend three different schools in three years.

How do I register my child for the school next year?

Any student new to the CBE is required to register online by visiting our New Student Registration page. Registration for the 2026-27 school year starts January 2026.

CBE students living in Sage Hill and Kincora communities, and are currently in:

• Grades 5 and 6, will automatically be registered to the Simon Fraser School. No action is required.
• Grades 7 and 8 must inform their current principal by Friday March 13, 2026 of their decision to remain at their current school or transfer to Simon Fraser School.

How will students get to school?

Current Kincora students entering Grade 9 who chose to stay at Colonel Irvine School will have access to transportation services for the 2026-27 school year only. All other students choosing to stay will now be considered out-of-attendance area and may apply for transportation as conditional riders. Transportation to Colonel Irvine School will end June 30, 2027, and families choosing to remain will need to have alternative (non-CBE) transportation for 2027-28 school year.

Current Sage Hill Grade 7 and 8 students designated to Simon Fraser but choose to remain at F. E. Osborne School will continue to use Calgary Transit as their designated transportation option.

CBE students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk zone, but within the attendance area. Please note transportation for middle and junior high school students include yellow school bus service or Calgary Transit.
