Happy Mother's Day,

Last week we gave our farewell to acting assistant principal, Mr. Darren Toews.  He was an excellent addition to our SVS family, and we wish him well as he re-enters retirement life.  At the same time, we welcome Mr. Gord Hamby as our new acting assistant principal on Monday, May 12. 

Many thanks to Ms. Black and Mrs. Belziuk for leading our fundraising initiative to support Helping Families Handle Cancer.  It has been overwhelming how much support we have already received in such a small amount of time.  This organization is in addition to our support to Kids Cancer Care.  Specifically, Helping Families Handle Cancer provides crucial assistance such as covering costs for parking, housing, medical expenses, and meals for families who are spending extended periods at the hospital during their child's treatment.  Student wore yellow to support this initiative and participated in a whole-school awareness assembly.

We also had our School Council AGM last Thursday and welcomed some new executive to our fantastic team.  More information will be communicated about these updates later.  Also, we want to thank Wanda Bitz for her incredible years of dedication to our School Council.  Wanda has an incredible memory and provides important clarity and innovative ideas to help our school stay well supported.  This week the council not only provided needed funds to support our physical education program but also gave our staff a wonderful treat to start our Friday with coffee, donuts, plants, and some very kind message for all our staff.  We are very fortunate to have a supportive and fun council to work with.

There is lots to be grateful for in our SVS community and we are excited for another exciting week of learning.  A few things to keep in mind...
